TCI SOCCER TEAM HOLDS HEADS HIGH AFTER LOSING US SEMI FINAL
The teammates of the Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association (TCIFA) under nine soccer side can hold their heads high after reaching the semi-final of their first ever competitive soccer tournament.
Team TCI were the only unbeaten under nine side in the event’s group stages winning all three games against the Florida Vikings (4:1), Braden River (3:1) and Detroit’s Canton Celtic (5-0) at the AS Roma President’s Day Cup in Orlando on 15-17 February 2014.
Their semi-final was a mighty game against a select Florida district side (Check name – Fusbal?) . After taking an early lead, (check name) equalised and then went 3:1 up before, TCI fought back to earn a 3:3 tie. Such was the momentum of team TCI at this point that Coach Frazer Park thought that had the game gone on his team would, but the final whistle went. Unfortunately, the game then went to the lottery of a sudden death penalty shootout where they had two well struck penalties saved by the opposition goalie to lose the game with the last kick of the ball.
